People in the Emerging Futures Network intend to create a directory in which people can enter information about themselves, the groups they are a part of, and more. What are our needs as participants in the Emerging Futures Network, and what tools might satisfy those needs?

Three things that we may not have to have out-of-the-box, but that we want to be able to integrate in the near future:

  • Open Identity - OpenID
  • Member Care - personalized network weaving and event planning buy in (live chat, )
  • Technology and flow currency - e.g. OS Earth

We want people/groups to be able to participate without having to change what they're doing.

What is Emerging Futures Network?

Helpful for raising funds (and in general) to be have a short, clear articulation of what EFN is about. Also helpful - what service(s) we are providing to people in the network/directory.

Forrist - for example, time bank (services barter)

Network-weaving example:

Julie is going to develop a peace center in the new park. Wants to have information about other centers around the world - Evonne's center in Los Angeles, Bryan - a center in Las Vegas. Evonne can get help figuring out how to do health care for her employees.

Contact info, photo, etc. Connections Currency and flow systems (implying identity, reputation)

Kaliya - people want to be autonomous connected - don't want to all join one big portal. Natural Capitalism Institute - Wiser Earth, Wiser Commons, etc. - started with MediaWiki - wanted a way for structured data to maintain it's integrity in this so that people can search/browse it better. They plan to implement XRI, XDI and Higgins as an interoperable open identity framework. This will allow (among many other things) people in multiple installations to maintain their info in one place. ($160,000)

Kaliya wants a similar system for the spiritual activist world, wants to use their codebase, suggests that we also tell them we want it. It's not public yet, but ask Katrina to take a look at it.

from the wiki before the session: http://gmpg.org/xfn/tools and http://rubhub.com/ might be of interest - Evan's contacts: http://rubhub.com/main/site/?127504

Rubhub is nifty, but only works with people who have websites. XFN looks like another specification worth tracking; i'll add a page to the EFN Wagn for that. --John Abbe 22:01, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
